A Historic Soba Restaurant Loved in Asakusa for Over 160 Years.Founded in 1870, this long-established soba restaurant has been a beloved part of Asakusa for more than 160 years.Inside the shop, you’ll find a sign reading “Official Purveyor to Sensō-ji Temple,” a testament to its deep historical roots. The famed Japanese writer Kafu Nagai was a frequent visitor, particularly fond of the Kashiwa Nanban—a heartwarming soba dish featuring tender chicken and green onions in a delicate, flavorful broth. The dish remains a favorite to this day.Another signature dish is the Tempura Soba, topped with a jumbo prawn tempura that practically spills over the edge of the bowl. The prawn is fried in specially ordered, 100% pure sesame oil, giving it a crisp, light texture on the outside and a juicy, tender bite inside. The soup stock is made using high-quality katsuobushi from Makurazaki, Kagoshima, and is carefully simmered over many hours to create a rich, deep umami flavor. As a culinary symbol of Asakusa, this soba shop has stood the test of time. There is also a branch conveniently located near the iconic Kaminarimon Gate.
